Application Instructions

In order to meet with the FBFI Chaplaincy Selection Board in February, June, or October, this application must be returned to the office by January 1, May 1, or September 1, respectively.
 

 

  1. Complete the Official Online Application on www.fbfi.org and email it to

    Take time to prepare a neat application, giving attention to spelling and grammar.

              Include with your application:
                                            
                   i.   
    Digital color photo (you and family, if applicable); Photo need not be                     studio quality, but must be clear

                                  ii.    $100.00 processing fee; you may call and pay by Visa                                          or Mastercard, pay online through Paypal at www.fbfi.org, or                                send a check.

  2. FBFI Commission on Military Chaplains will check references and do a background check

  3. Plan to attend the next annual FBFI Meeting

    1. Annual meeting is always held the second full week of June. Chaplains and candidates meet Monday – Friday.; contact the FBFI office for location.

    2. Applicants to be interviewed will meet with the FBFI Chaplaincy Selection Board

    3. You will meet with other chaplains currently endorsed by the FBFI for a question and answer time

  4. You will be notified of acceptance or rejection by the FBFI Commission on Military Chaplains

  5. If accepted, you can begin the process of applying to the US Military to become a chaplain

    1. You choose the branch in which you want to serve

    2. Additional information may be required

 
Remember:  The process takes time—be patient.


After you have been approved/endorsed, there are still requirements for you to fulfill. You must maintain your endorsement to stay in the military as a chaplain. 

 

Your relationship to your home church

 

  1. We suggest that you provide your home church with an up-dated photo to go on their mission board.

  2. Write your pastor and church on a regular basis keeping them up-to-date on your ministry.

  3. Give them definite prayer requests.

  4. At intervals no greater than three years, visit your home church. Let your pastor know you’re coming so you can report/preach as do other missionaries.

 

Your relationship to the FBFI Commission on Chaplains

 

  1. A Chaplains Report reminder will be sent each quarter, on January 1, April 1, July 1, and October 1.  Please be prompt in getting it back to the office.

  2. The FBFI Commission on Chaplains has an annual meeting in June.  Your presence is required except in extreme emergencies.

  3. Keep the FBFI Commission office promptly advised of all changes in your status, i.e. promotions, duty assignments.

  4. The FBFI Commission on Chaplains has ongoing expenses to serve and represent you to the Department of Defense.  Therefore, we must ask that you remain current with your responsibility to contribute your dues.  As a reminder, your continued endorsement is contingent upon your faithfulness:

    1.  Active Duty Chaplains contribute 2% of base pay each month.

    2. Reserve, Guard, CAP, Police, Hospital contribute $100 annually.  Annual payments are due January 1 or July 1.

    3. Chaplain candidates contribute $50 annually.  Annual payments are due January 1 or July 1.
